Bending machines
Metal sheets are shaped with bending machines. The roller drive requires a lot of force – force that Rollstar planetary gearboxes provide in abundance.
The sheets can be bent into many different shapes and manufactured precisely for their intended purpose. In order to shape a metal sheet, for example, into a cylinder, the bending machine uses a drive roller for moving the sheet, as well as side rollers, in order to apply the necessary force for bending the sheets. The planetary gear units from Rollstar are characterized by high flexibility and robustness for this application.
Planetary gear with torque up to 6.5 million Nm
Rollstar planetary gears are perfect for bending machines. Cold forming of sheets (up to 400 mm thick) requires high and highest torques to drive the rolls. Our currently largest planetary gearbox with a maximum torque of 6.5 million Nm is used in this field of application.
Compared to our competitors' products, Rollstar planetary gearboxes have smaller outer diameters. In addition, the single- or double-sided flattened mounting flanges are adapted to customer requirements. As a result, the upper and lower rollers of the bending machines can be brought closer together – a clear competitive advantage for plant builders.
Modular gear stage spectrum
The flexible and generous range of modular gear stages enables our customers to design the drive of the machine as individually as they wish. Be it with a gear reduction specifically adapted to the bending requirements or the attachment of a hydraulic or electric motor of your choice. Of course, we also have the right hydraulic motor from our own production and can offer complete drive solutions.
Reference systems
Bertsch/MegaFab bending machine
Rollstar hydraulic gear motors in use on a Bertsch/MegaFab bending machine in the USA. Both the planetary gear of the upper roller and the lower roller drive are equipped with an axial piston motor from Rollstar and a matching holding brake, also from Rollstar.
The maximum output torque of the planetary gears of the upper roller is 360,000 Nm, the lower roller drives can achieve a maximum output torque of 195,000 Nm.
HAEUSLER bending machine
Rollstar hydraulic gear motors in use on a HAEUSLER bending machine in Switzerland. The planetary gear of the upper roller, equipped with an additional disc brake from Rollstar, achieves a maximum torque of 3.5 million Nm and is driven by an axial piston motor from Rexroth. For reasons of space, the lower roller gear had to be mounted directly on the lower roller. Rollstar developed and built an individual special gearbox in the shortest possible time to meet this requirement.
Rollstar for bending machines
Rollstar motors, gearboxes and brakes are widely used in bending machines in the following areas:
- Bending machines
- Straightening machines
- Upper roller drives
- Lower roller drives
- Calibration machines
